What happened to SpinelliCreations.com ?

SC was started as a side project in the winter of 2002 / 2003. Over the years, what was born out of necessity took on a mind of its own.

After nearly 2 decades of operation, SC was retired in February of 2021. While the project had evolved into a virulent advocacy of Open Source Software, supporting GNU, centOS, and various independant repositories; a combination of hardware obsolescence, limited time, and (quite frankly) the fact that the OSS movement has 'won' (hurray!) dimished the effectiveness of and the space within which SC operated.

Far from a sad retirement, Pentiumslayer1.SpinelliCreations.com and Pentiumslayer3.SpinelliCreations.com sacrificed their data storage arrays and primary components to be used in the build of swordfish.spinelli.co - while the 'crusade' may have come to an end, 'thyne benevolent dictator' (as Vince so oft referred to himself) still embraces a passion for independant sustainable infrastructure. To that end, swordfish.spinelli.co is a data security / privacy project. It is an example of a stable SOHO network infrastructure stack built on predominately 7 to 15 year old hardware (meaning that such hardware is readily available and within the grasp of the everyday man or woman).

spinelli.co operates a secure web server / secure mail server / secure private-media server / secure cloud storage and collaboration ecosystem / video surveillance / wireless radio management / firewall / DNS server / DHCP server / hair-pin NAT / file-server / network print hub / and quality of service portal on a private level. swordfish is a testament to what can now be done with OSS, due wholly to the efforts of the millions of folks around the world who fought so hard for this movement over the past few decades.

NOTE - we are disappointed in the direction that has been taken in regard to CentOS since the acquistion of the distribution by parent RedHat (IBM). Some would argue that the 'writing was on the wall' in 2014, but we'd held out hope. Now, however, it has been announced and executed - as of December 2021, CentOS ceases to exist as a downstream binary compatible OSS replica of RHEL. Instead, it has been pushed upstream, as a test-bed / pre-release environment with what we are to understand is 'rolling' support (not stable releases with 8+ year support cycles). As a result, we have switched to Rocky Linux. Co-founder of the original CentOS project (Greg Kurtzer) - having fully absorbed the present condition of his once beloved project - secured support from the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Arm, 45Drives, Google, VMWare, and Supermicro to launch Rocky Linux - a fully binary compatible downstream OSS release of RHEL. The fella is straight hot fire. The new distribution's name was chosen as a tribute to his CentOS co-founder Rocky McGaugh (deceased). By December 12, 2020, the code repository of Rocky Linux had become the top-trending repository on GitHub.

... and - yes, it now all plays very nicely with smart phones and modern devices.
